Κυστική ίνωση

Η κυστική ίνωση είναι μια γενετική διαταραχή. Αν κάποιος έχει κυστική ίνωση, ένα από τα γονίδια του δεν λειτουργεί σωστά. Αυτό είναι γνωστό ως γονίδιο CFTR το οποίο είναι στο χρωμόσωμα 7.   • 1 στις 4 πιθανότητες ότι το παιδί θα έχει κυστική ίνωση (θα κληρονομήσει το γονίδιο της κυστικής ίνωσης και από τους δύο γονείς).
  • 2 στις 4 πιθανότητες ότι το παιδί δεν θα έχει κυστική ίνωση, αλλά θα είναι φορέας (να κληρονομήσει ένα γονίδιο της κυστικής ίνωσης από τον ένα γονέα, αλλά την κανονική μορφή του γονιδίου από τον  άλλο γονέα).
  • 1 στις 4 πιθανότητες ότι το παιδί δεν θα έχει κυστική ίνωση, και δεν θα είναι φορέας (θα κληρονομήσει το φυσιολογικό γονίδιο και από τους δύο γονείς).

Ποια είναι τα συμπτώματα της κυστικής ίνωσης;

Τα πρώτα συμπτώματα κυστικής ίνωσης, συνήθως, αναπτύσσονται μέσα στον πρώτο χρόνο της ζωής, αλλά μπορεί να εμφανιστούν και αργότερα στην παιδική ηλικία. Η σοβαρότητα των συμπτωμάτων μπορεί να ποικίλουν, όπως: Συμπτώματα στον πνεύμονα, επίμονος παραγωγικός βήχας, συριγμός, δυσκολία στην αναπνοή, επαναλαμβανόμενες πνευμονικές λοιμώξεις.
